Homemade Cough Syrup

Three cheers for our friends at LaNay Farms in Orem, Utah.  Not only are they an amazing farm where they grow nutrient-rich produce and they deliver it fresh to you within HOURS of being picked, but, they are also a great source of information.  Yes, they offer great information about raising food, preparing food and eating food.  In their latest newsletter, they shared this recipe for Honey-Thyme Cough Syrup.  We are happy to share this recipe with you.  Be sure to take a few minutes and visit their website:  http://lanayferme.com/main/  and if you really want something special, you will sign up for their weekly co-op and perhaps even their weekly newsletter.

Honey-Thyme Cough Syrup

Easy to make, more soothing than store-bought, natural and fresh will more powerfully provide the relief your body needs.  Take one teaspoon as needed to relieve a cough.

2 cups water

3 tablespoons fresh or dried thyme (best from the garden)

1 cup raw honey

Bring the water to a boil in a small saucepan, then remove from heat.  Add the thyme, cover and let sit for 10  minutes or until cooled.  Strain, then whisk in the honey until dissolved.  Store in a glass jar.  The cough syrup will keep refrigerated for 2 months.
