Welcome to Real Foods Market! Here you will find some of the most contaminant free, organic and nutrient rich whole food available. This is not just a business to us, it is literally our food supply and our lifeline - nearly all of what my own family and I eat comes from Real Foods Market.

The Real Foods Market Story
I have always been very active in sports and very fit. However, when I was about 26 years old some definite changes started taking place in my body -- in spite of my continued physical activity. I started gaining weight, even as I ate less food, adding about 70 pounds in just a couple of years. I also began to experience a noticeable decline in energy, an increase in flu’s and colds, headaches and other “common” maladies. This physical change increased my interest in nutrition and health, but nothing I heard in the media or read on my own made much sense or yielded positive results when I tried it myself.

After searching through the morass of confusing and often contradictory nutritional information for nearly a decade, I was directed towards “Nutritional and Physical Degeneration,” a visionary work by Dr. Weston A. Price which is an enlightening study of the nutritional habits of groups of people all around the world known for their superb health. This led me to other works about naturopathic medicine along these same lines, including “Traditional Foods are Your Best Medicine” by Dr. Ron Schmid. As I began to develop a strong foundation and understanding of traditional nutritional principles I began sorting through the mire of modern biochemical and nutritional research and discovered many instructive works, including “The Schwarzbein Principle” by Diana Schwarzbein. It was encouraging to find that the best modern research also supports the same traditional nutritional principles.

The dramatic improvements in my own health also provided further supporting evidence. Through changing my eating habits I have been able to lose weight easily and without “dieting,” or having to go hungry. At the same time, my energy has returned, I sleep better, I rarely get sick, and my resting heart rate is lower than it was when I was an 18 year old competing in cross country and track. There are thousands of people who have experienced similar dramatic improvements, even the reversal of severe degenerative diseases, through application of correct principles of nutrition.

Unfortunately, after educating myself in this manner, I ran into another serious problem: truly “real” food was very difficult to find, or not to be found at all in many instances. There is even very little “real” food in the common health food store – as most of it is adulterated much the same as the food in the regular grocery store. I spent countless hours trying to find real food for my family. While traversing through this educational and sourcing change, I found many friends and family along the way that also wanted real food. It was from this journey and the interest of others along the way that the Real Foods Market concept was born.

We established Real Foods Market to share forgotten nutritional principles and make available the hard to find nutrient rich food supply needed for optimum health. What we put into our bodies, and more importantly, what we don’t put in, affects every aspect of our health – our fitness, appearance, strength, energy, sleep quality, mental acuity, performance, moods, illness, disease, and longevity. Hence, the decision of what we put into our bodies, and what we don’t put in, is one of the most important decisions we make – it affects the quality of every area of our life. It reminds one of the old wisdom, “if you don’t have your health, what do you have?”

Nutrition - Unchanging Time Tested Principles
Traditional nutrition is the dietary wisdom of the ages – unchanging nutritional principles – not another here today-gone-tomorrow fad. We offer resources to help you learn about these time-tested secrets of the healthiest peoples ever studied, and then the real food sources to make it happen for you.

What makes the nutritional information so unique is that it is not merely about how to have more energy, lose weight, or live longer, although all these are the inevitable outcome of eating a diet that our bodies are evolutionarily designed for - in order to unfold to our full genetic potential for robust health, we need a diet that is densely packed with nutrients. Many traditional cultures understood this, and selected and prepared foods that gave their bodies all they needed to develop to their full potential.

In order to re-establish diets that allow us to reach our genetic potential, we need to first counter the confusion and misinformation so prevalent today. We need to dispel the nutrition myths perpetuated by the media and big business, including the myth of the low-fat high carbohydrate diet, and we need to expose the dangers of trans-fatty acids, hydrogenated oils, and many other toxic chemicals, which are prevalent in all modern processed foods.

We can look to evidence from the latest research in biochemistry, evidence from Mother Nature, the wisdom of the ages through studies of the healthiest peoples that have ever lived, and what our own bodies will tell us. Every farmer knows that an animal’s body will tell it what it needs for optimum health and the animal will search out foods accordingly. Our own body can do the same for us once we clean it out and start listening. Once cleaned out and cured of dangerous addictions to modern processed high carbohydrate foods and sugars, the body will actually crave the nutrient rich foods that it needs.

What is Real Food? – Beyond Organic
Real food goes far beyond the popularized organic vs. non-organic distinction. Real food is nothing more or less than food created by Mother Nature and eaten in its natural, unadulterated, pure and nutrient rich state. In theory, if you cannot pick it, gather it, milk it, or hunt it – it is not real food.

The processing of food into the products so common today destroys most of the nutrient value of the original food. Most processed foods could be labeled “nutrient free” and it would not be too far from the truth! This manufactured “food” is also contaminated with many pesticides, chemicals, hormones, antibiotics, additives, flavorings, etc. that are toxic to the body – not to mention the prevalence of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and the unknown possible consequences there.

Some examples of real food include organic fruits and vegetables; wild Alaska Salmon and other wild seafood; grass fed beef that is antibiotic free, hormone free, and pesticide free; grassfed raw milk and raw dairy products; healthy oils including cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, hazelnut oil, sunflower oil, sesame oil, and Udo's Choice perfected oil blend; free range, pasture fed poultry, including turkey and chicken; pasture-fed, free range eggs; raw nuts – almonds, hazelnuts (filberts), pecans, etc. and seeds, and gourmet nitrate free and preservative free jerky like wild salmon jerky, turkey jerky, beef jerky; seaweed, kelp and sea vegetables, and natural wholesome sweeteners such as raw unfiltered, unprocessed honey; RealSalt, and Redmond Clay.

We establish personal relationships with our supplier partners and with the larger ones we make frequent visits to view and understand their operations. We work hand in hand with them to produce the most nutrient rich real food possible.

We do the work to make sure the food is high quality so you don’t have to. We get many requests to carry additional products – we look at each request and evaluate it based on the “real food” standard. If the product does not meet the standard for “realness,” wholesomeness, purity and nutrient value we will not make it part of the real foods product selection.

In some categories, prime real food has yet to be found. In these cases, we bring in the best available choice if it meets the bulk of the criteria, while at the same time continuing our search for the prime real food. In some cases where it does not seem likely that we will find what we are looking for, we create operations to produce such real food ourselves. For example, we have already gone beyond the loosely interpreted free range standard to produce truly pasture fed real omega-3 rich eggs and have created our own dairy set up to produce real grass fed raw milk, raw butter, raw cream, raw yogurt, raw keifer and raw buttermilk.
